Halloween Tales of Deadly Speed: The Real Horror on our Streets
As Halloween approaches, let’s consider a real danger haunting our streets: speeding. Nearly one-third of all traffic fatalities involve speeding, claiming about 10,000 lives yearly. On Halloween night, when pedestrian activity peaks, the risks are even higher. A car traveling at 20 mph can stop in time for a child crossing the road, while one at 40 mph could be fatal. This Halloween, remember that slowing down isn’t just about following rules—it’s about preserving the spirit of community and keeping our neighborhoods safe for all.

Fowl Play at 8th and SW 1st: Where Ducks Waddle Safely, But Humans Can’t
At the intersection of 8th Avenue and SW 1st Street, we’ve come across a quirky paradox: ducks have their own crossings, complete with signs, while pedestrians are left navigating a real-life game of Frogger. As we embark on the 8th Avenue Complete Streets Project, we’re focused on changing this fowl situation into one that’s fair for all—feathered friends and humans alike. It’s time for Hallandale Beach to get its ducks in a row and create a safer, more accessible street for everyone. Your ideas could be the golden egg we need to make this happen!
