Safer Streets for Opa- Locka

ZERO TRAFFIC DEATHS

Seacrest Corridor Plan: The Safety Passport Experience

On Friday evening, September 5th, our team joined the City of Boynton Beach’s First Friday event at City Hall, which this month featured a lively silent disco. We hosted the Seacrest Corridor Plan: Safety Passport Experience, an interactive engagement designed to give residents a voice in shaping the future of Seacrest Boulevard.

Purpose of the Event

The Safety Passport Experience was created to do more than just share information. Our goal was to:

  • Empower participants to share their ideas about what makes a street safer and more enjoyable.
  • Educate the community on the Seacrest Corridor Plan and what improvements are being considered.
  • Engage residents through fun, hands-on activities that encourage feedback.

Residents shared their ideas with our project engineers, offering valuable feedback.

By combining interactive boards, one-on-one conversations with project engineers, and a community survey, we were able to capture local priorities and make sure resident feedback directly informs the plan.

How We Set Up the Experience

We transformed our tent into a welcoming, informative hub for the evening. Residents stopped by to:

  • Please fill out a community survey, which doubles as their ticket into our bike raffle.
  • Interact with our project boards to map out what they’d like to see along Seacrest.
  • Talk directly with the engineering team, who answered questions and listened to their concerns.

Our Safety Passport tent set up at Boynton Beach City Hall, and the brand new bike raffle drew excitement throughout the evening

To make the event inviting, we also handed out branded merchandise like sunglasses and fanny packs, small items that helped start conversations and build excitement.

Community Feedback: What We Heard

The community response was strong, with about 60 surveys completed during the event. Some clear priorities emerged from participants:

  • A strong desire for decorative lighting to improve safety and create a more welcoming environment.
  • Calls for better bike infrastructure, making Seacrest safer and more accessible for people riding bicycles.
  • Request for traffic calming measures to slow vehicles and improve safety for everyone.

These insights will help guide the development of future design concepts for the corridor.

A visual record of the community’s priorities for Seacrest Boulevard, and our project boards filled with stickers, notes, and survey responses.

Raffle &Winner Announcement

Participants who completed the survey were entered into our raffle for a brand-new bicycle. At 8 p.m., we announced the winner, a highlight of the evening! The raffle created excitement and added a celebratory feel to the event, reinforcing the connection between safe streets and active transportation.

Congratulations to our raffle winner! The highlight of the night was presenting the bike to one lucky participant.

Looking Back

The Safety Passport Experience was a success because it combined fun, education, and authentic engagement. Residents didn’t just attend, they actively participated, asked thoughtful questions, and gave meaningful feedback that will shape the Seacrest Corridor.

We are grateful to everyone who stopped by our tent, shared their thoughts, and helped us make the Safety Passport Experience a memorable night for Boynton Beach.
