A Safer, More Connected Hallandale Beach

About

The Hallandale Beach Complete Streets Initiative focuses on improving 1.5 miles of N.W./S.W. 8th Avenue. Our goal is to create safer, more inclusive, and accessible streets that meet the needs of everyone—whether you’re walking, cycling, driving, or using public transportation. This project is part of a larger effort to reimagine our transportation infrastructure and enhance the quality of life for all Hallandale Beach residents.

Scope

The project spans from Pembroke Road to S.W. 11th Street and aims to transform the area into a Complete Street. This means enhancing the streets to be safe and accessible for all users, including pedestrians, cyclists, transit riders, and motorists. Key elements of this transformation include:

  • Pedestrian Pathways: Safe and wide sidewalks designed for comfortable walking.
  • Dedicated Bike Lanes: Protected lanes for cyclists to ensure a secure and efficient ride.
  • Improved Public Transit Access: Convenient and accessible bus stops and transit options to serve all community members.

These improvements are designed to not only enhance safety and reduce congestion but also support the community’s economic and social growth, making Hallandale Beach a more connected and vibrant place for everyone.

Project Vision & Goals

Our vision is to create a connected, safe, and vibrant Hallandale Beach where people of all abilities can move freely and safely through their community, whether by foot, bike, car, or public transit.

Goals:

Safety: To reduce traffic-related accidents and make the streets safer for all users. Special emphasis will be placed on creating safe crossings for pedestrians and improved access for cyclists.

Accessibility: Ensuring that every resident has equal access to important destinations like schools, parks, and businesses by improving walkways, bike lanes, and public transit.

Community Involvement: We believe that collaboration is key. Through workshops, public meetings, and online surveys, the community will help shape the final design.

Sustainability: Promote eco-friendly transportation options such as cycling, walking, and public transit, reducing the environmental impact of our streets.

FAQ

The City of Opa-locka has started a bold, new initiative to make our streets safer for everyone. This includes people of all ages and abilities, whether they’re drivers, pedestrians, bicyclists, or public transportation riders. The City aims to eliminate all road deaths and serious injuries by 2030 through its Vision Zero goal. To achieve this, the City is putting together a Comprehensive Safety Action Plan (CSAP), funded by a SS4A Grant. This plan will pinpoint safety issues and outline specific actions to enhance safety for all travel modes throughout the City. Vision Zero believes that traffic deaths and injuries are preventable and strives to create safer streets through engineering, education, enforcement, and community engagement. Your input is crucial to shaping this plan, and there are many ways for you to get involved!
