Safer Streets for Opa- Locka

ZERO TRAFFIC DEATHS

On Tuesday, October 15, 2024, something exciting happened at Ingalls Park. Over 50 people from Hallandale Beach came together to talk about 8th Avenue. They shared ideas about how to make the street better for everyone.

The event was from 2 to 4 PM. People of all ages came, including many kids and families. Everyone got to look at pictures, answer questions, and talk about what they want for 8th Avenue.

One of the cool things was a survey about bike lanes. Most kids really liked the idea of bike lanes that are separate from the road and have barriers to protect them. This shows that kids want safe places to ride their bikes.

Here’s what we learned from the survey:

Some people think cars go too fast on 8th Avenue. This led to talks about ways to slow down traffic and make the street safer for everyone. At the end of the day, people felt happy. They were glad the city asked for their ideas. The team working on 8th Avenue got lots of good information to help make the street better.

This event was just the start. The city will keep talking to people about 8th Avenue. Everyone’s ideas will help make the street safer and more fun for all. Keep watching for more news about 8th Avenue. There will be more chances to share your ideas!
